Learn more about Kara below!
Why did you choose to pursue clinical social work? “So many things inspired me! I worked with an amazing social worker and friend who inspired me with the advocacy and work she did day-to-day for others. I learned an abundant amount about what social work is through her. Also, seeing community and mental health needs that were increasing and needing support interested and propelled me to go back to school to become a therapist to support others in a deeper way. I am a learner to the core and love helping others!”
Please share your history with the Crisis Nursery. “I completed my first Social Work practicum at the Nursery in the FEP program and fell in love with the Nursery. I heard of the incredible things the Nursery did in the community before stepping in, but being able to see it first-hand truly touched my heart. The Nursery felt like home from the beginning. I was able to become the Training Program Manager and support as a Training Liaison before beginning my current role.”
What are you most excited about as you step into the role of 'Clinical Director' at the Crisis Nursery? “Our staff is truly incredible and the best! I love being able to work alongside our team, to learn from them, and to see each day the life-changing work they are doing for our moms, families, and children. I am excited about continuing to work with our team on ways to innovate and strengthen our incredible clinical programs both in the nurseries and in our outreach programs. I feel very grateful to do this work at the Nursery. This is truly a special place with the most amazing people!!!!”
What is something that has been impactful for you during your time at the Nursery? “During my time as a student, I remember feeling from the beginning that I was welcomed and a part of the team. Anyone I needed to ask a question to would drop ANYTHING they were doing to help. I remember feeling teary eyed with how happy everyone was, the ear-to-ear smiles, the sincere love for our families and kids, and the "we got this!" attitude throughout any crisis or stressor. It inspired me and continues to inspire me to this day!”
What do you like to do outside of work? “I love to be creative- I write, read, do art projects and love to do DIY projects around my home. I love yoga, being active, and going to parks. Most of all, my favorite thing is spending time with my kiddos, husband, and family!” 🙂
